Abstract

This research is concerned with the Optimisation and the Race-Variable Sensitivity analysis of a 200m race Sprint time Model in a Summer Olympic Games. Like other models, the model comprises of four (4) parameters: Age (A), Weight (W), Height (H) and Event year (t). To this end, the model was optimised subject to some energy equations as constraints, where second derivative test method was used to explain its critical points. However, the observation surrounding the models optimal values indicate that it is minimum. Hence, the optimal time is 21.85 seconds; implying that the aforementioned time is the least acceptable time any athlete could win the race. Another major contribution of this study is the race-variable sensitivity analysis. The upshot of the numerical computation shows that, the model most sensitive parameter in order of their highest ranking is Year of Event (t), followed by Age (A), then the Weight (W) and lastly the Height (H) of the runner. Consequently, the finding in this research will help athletic bodies on the most important parameter to give the supreme attention in the selection process regarding preparation ahead of the next edition of the summer Olympic Games.
